Tower of London

Towerin linna on kuulunut tärkeänä osana lapsuusmuistoihini. Rakas serkkuni kertoi siitä ja sen verisestä historiasta lukemattomia tarinoita. Tänä vuonna Lontoon matkani yhtenä tärkeimmistä kohteista olikin juuri kyseinen linna. Olin liikkeellä heti aamusta, joten sain nauttia kokemuksesta rauhassa, vain muutamien satojen turistien kanssa.  Alla lisää kuvia......

------------Tower of London has been a big part of my childhood memories. My dear cousin told countless tales of the castle and its bloody history. On my trip to London this year it was one of the most important places for me to visit. I started at the crack of the dawn, so I got to enjoy the experience with only a few hundred other tourists. Yllä olevissa kuvissa on näkymiä linnan pihalta. Muurien takaa ei voi välttyä näkemästä uusia rakennuksia tai nostokurkia. Towerin lähelle nousee jatkuvasti uusia korkeita rakennuksia, joista korkeimpana the Shard (310m). Towerin linnan White Tower, ylimmässä kuvassa nelikulmainen rakennus, oli aikansa korkein rakennus, 27m korkea, vuonna 1098. Hauskin kokemus linnassa oli ehdottomasti Yeomen Warders eli Beefeaters vartijat, joista yksi kuvattuna yllä. He ovat linnan vanginvartijoita, nykyisin turistioppaita, jotak kertovat humoristiseti linnan menneisyydestä ja nykyisyydestä.   ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------  The pictures above are from the castle green. You cannot help seeing new buildings and cranes rising behind the castle walls. New highrisers are being built near Tower of London all the time, the highest of which is the Shard (310m, 1004 ft). The White tower of the castle was the highest building of its own time, 1098 at 27m. Definately the funniest experience at the castle were the Yeoman warders or Beefeaters, the quards acting now as tourist quides. They told humorous stories of the past and present of the castle.
